South America

In February, Holy Spirit School will have an International Night.  In preparation for that, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are working in collaborative, mixed grade level groups to learn about the countries in South America.

We met in groups for the first time today, chose the country each group is doing, discussed the expectations and end-results of the project, and had a little bit of time to start researching the countries.  The groups worked well together and seemed excited about the projects!  We will be getting together every Friday for 45 minutes to work on the projects.

At least for now, the work is expected to be done here at school.  If students are motivated to search for some information at home or at the public library, etc., that's fine.  Here is a helpful link we found as a good starting point: http://www.ducksters.com/geography/southamerica.php.

Students should always have parental permission before searching on the Internet, and close parent supervision while working is strongly recommended.
